I regularly visit the grocery store because I am always on the hunt for fresh seasonal fruits and veggies. Today, to my surprise, I saw a nice green raw mango. No need to say today’s dinner includes raw mango chutney.
Chutney is a must-have condiment with my meal. It is made of fresh herbs and bursts with flavor.
The secret behind this delicious sweet and sour raw mango chutney is all about choosing the right mango. If the mango is very ripe, it will be sweet, and everyone in the family will eat it up before you can make the chutney! If it is halfway ripe, it will be sweet and sour, and no one will want to just cut it up and eat it plain. But this halfway ripe mango is the ticket to perfectly sweet and sour mango chutney (so hurry before it gets ripe and someone in the family swipes it from the countertop!).
Not only is raw mango chutney bursting with flavor, it is also bursting with health benefits. Did you know a fresh mango includes nearly 70% of the recommended daily Vitamin C intake? And that it includes 19 other healthy vitamins and minerals? Mangoes are especially high in vitamin A and folate and are a good source of fiber as well. The American Heart Association says the fruit’s potassium, fiber and vitamins can reduce the risk of heart disease. Staying healthy is much easier when you can eat delicious fruits like these!
